Fifty years ago, the two denominations voted to unite, but some would say we have yet to fully merge these traditions. What are the strengths, weaknesses, insights and oversights of each? How do we carry them forward in ways that strengthen our congregations and bless the world?
Our fascination with witchcraft, the Devil, spirits and ghosts are given free reign around this time of year. However, there was a time in our history when the absolute belief in such things as interpreted by the prevailing form of Christianity resulted in tragic circumstances and an uneasy legacy.
Scientifically speaking, we have supposedly acknowledged that the universe does not revolve around the earth and that humans hold no particular place of importance in the story of the diversity of life forms on this planet. Have we acknowledged it philosophically? Ethically? Religiously?

We live in an area where the night skies are still dark and star-filled. We’d like to make sure it stays that way. Our motto is “See the Light: Keep it Dark!”
We want to inspire people to take more steps to roll back the current level of CO2 to 350 — with simple ideas for saving energy, and the devices to help them do it. We’ll be asking people to pledge to take at least one more new step, and we’ll show them just how easily they can do it. Green products such as CFLs, recycled paper products, non-plastic water bottles, and cloth grocery bags will be available. Those who make pledges will have their names entered in a raffle for free collections of these products. There will also be a demonstration of a solar oven.
The event will take place on Saturday, October 24, beginning at 9:00 a.m., at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Ramada #2, near the softball field. UUCSEA contact is Tricia Gerrodette.
In what has been termed “the paradox of plenty,” we have huge surpluses of food and yet still have millions of people starving, over a billion people going hungry. How can we best respond? How do we think globally and act locally?
